October 2020 – Slow Fashion

Did you see what I did there? Completely skipped over the September blog! Time is moving by so quickly this season. It’s sweater weather and knitting weather, finally, and I’m taking advantage of both.

Since the Covid-19 quarantine, and the shut down of all in-person fiber fairs, I have been doing quite a few online sales. I have one coming up tomorrow on the Virtu-Wool Facebook page. You don’t have to join a group to participate, just jump on the page and enjoy all the Halloween fiber fun the vendors will be sharing. I’ll be presenting starting at 3:00p eastern (1:00 mountain). You won’t want to miss this because I’ll be debuting TWO new kits tomorrow.

The first kit release is my very first Dye and Knit Kit! This kit includes one skein of bare Arcadia Bulky, two colors of Landscape Dyes, Dyeing Instructions, and a knitting pattern for my Teewinot Hat.

I’ll be demonstrating the dyeing instructions tomorrow during my Virtu-Wool show, so if you have any interest in this Dye and Knit Kit, make sure and watch. I’ll be answering any questions you have there.

I love SO many things about this kit. First, it’s a wonderful way to completely customize a gift, whether for yourself or a loved one.

Second, dyeing with Landscape Dyes is so easy! You don’t need a dye studio or tons of special equipment, just a few easy-to-find cooking supplies that you can pick up at a thrift store. In fact, you’ll likely already have these things in your home.

MATERIALS – a 9×12 pyrex (or similar) dish, some glass measuring cups, some measuring teaspoons, a whisk, disposable gloves, a mask, an oven and a way to heat water.

How easy is that?!

Third, because this pattern uses bulky yarn, it knits up in a snap. The entire time you’ll be devoting to this entirely bespoke gift is 20 minutes of active dyeing time and about 4-6 hours of active knitting time!

The last and best reason I love this kit is because the result is absolutely stunning.

The second kit release is a collaboration with Sweater Sisters and our newest member of the design team, Christy Furlan.

This fabulous new shawl design is called God of Wine. It uses three skeins of Fleece Artists Chinook, a luscious worsted weight yarn.

The kit is on sale through November 8th and comes in three stunning colors.

Even though this month’s newsletter was a little late, November’s newsletter will be out in a couple of weeks with another new kit.

Have fun and keep knitting, my friends!
